Express Yourself - Public Speaking and Art Workshops and Competitions

Who are we?

Ekal Helping Hands is Ekal's youth team from Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. In addition to supporting Ekal's efforts, we've worked to impact our local community. This campaign is our way to do both of those things! We understand how Covid-19 has changed the lives of students worldwide, and we wanted to address this issue by supporting students in the Bloomington-Normal community with school supplies and EKAL schools in rural areas of India.

As a youth team, our slogan is "Youth for Youth", and our campaign, Express Yourself, encourages just that! We hope to show youth that they can use their voices, skills, and talents to make a difference through public speaking and art. We are so grateful for your contribution as you support our team, youth in the Bloomington-Normal community, and EKAL schools!

Target Audience:

Public Speaking: Grade Levels 3rd-8th

Art: Grade Levels K-8th

Course Curriculum:

Public Speaking:

Learn integral communication skills from a diverse group of public speakers including National Speech and Debate Tournament Qualifiers, an Illinois IHSA State Speech Finalist, and a Toastmasters Certified public speaker.

• Basic public speaking knowledge
• Learn how to effectively organize a speech
• Utilize proper body language
• Incorporate humor into your speech
• And more!

Art:

Foster creativity by learning various styles of art from accomplished artists in the Bloomington-Normal community!

• Madhubani Pen and Watercolor
• Landscape Art
• Gond Acrylic Painting
• Recreating a Masterpiece
• Mandala Art

Both courses will culminate in a in-person competition where students will be able to "Express Themselves" and showcase what they've learned with the opportunity to gain feedback and win prizes!
