Charlotte youth chapter's fundraising!

Hi everyone, 

Have you ever considered what it would be like if school weren't mandatory? Ever given a second thought to waking up, taking the bus [or car], and learning in an environment where courses are required and quality teaching is the standard?

Rural India's overall literacy rate, as it stands today, is only 67.8%, compared to the urban literacy rate, which is 84.1%. Many rural areas in India are very remote and far from the educational and hygiene facilities provided by urban settings. This divide hinders many from supporting their families and growing as individuals.

At the heart of the problem? The youth. According to the census in 1981 only 38% boys & 25% girls in rural India between the age group of 6 to 10 years attended school.

We can change that.

At Ekal Vidyalaya, we believe that supporting the next generation means supporting the changemakers of India, and the world.

With just a dollar a day, Ekal Vidyalaya schools run in villages across rural India, where children are taught for free by dedicated volunteer teachers. And it's not just kids. Ekal empowers women and men alike in farming practices, textiles and other jobs so that they can support themselves and become independent, empowered individuals. 

Our mission? Bringing literacy, healthcare, and economic prosperity to remote villages in India

But this isn't possible without the support of people like us, who have the power to invest and foster the emergence of a better, stronger generation. We are starting a new chapter of this amazing organization, right here in Charlotte! By reaching out to youth, our goal is to be able to fundraise and spread awareness about the issues faced by the people of rural India. Our current goal is $700 by Feb. 1st, 2026, but if we can get enough support, we would like to expand our approach to different kinds of events like talent shows and bake sales.
