How It Works
Tailoring trainees participate in a three-month training at a local Gramothan Resource Center. Trainings are led by expert instructors and taught in the local language.
Next, trainees can choose from a variety of opportunities to share their skills with the world-and earn substantial income while doing so.
The Strength in Self Sufficiency
After graduating from Ekal’s tailoring program, there’s no stopping women from using their skills to the fullest.
Tailors often go on to start shops in their villages. This grows rural economies and creates women micro-entrepreneurs.
Tailors have the opportunity to join a manufacturing group at their local Gramothan Resource Center, using their skills for large-scale market opportunities.
Tailors are able to start satellite training programs in their village, empowering even more women to thrive.
Meet KhushbuTailoring Training Graduate
"With the income I earn from tailoring, I am helping to support my household and also furthering my studies. This would not have been possible without Ekal."
Meet DevinaTailoring Training Graduate
"When the coronavirus pandemic came, Ekal invited us to the Gramothan Resource Center to make masks. I made four to five thousand masks, for which the GRC paid me 35,000 rupees. I had never seen so much money in my life, which I earned in only five months. I immediately bought a sewing machine with my earnings and began taking sewing orders at home. Now I earn up to 3,000 rupees per month."
